I looked at the horse standing next to me, astounded at the fact that she was in my hands. How had this happened? How had one of the fastest, most prized horses come to be standing right next to me? I recollected my thoughts, and then it all came back to me. I had run from my father, and had crashed right into a man, who was looking very disgruntled. I was about to run away, for I was scared, but then he stopped me and asked if I had a good hand with horses. I nodded and whispered a quiet response. Yes, my mother taught me everything she knew. The man smiled and led me to this stable. If you can catch that horse, you will become her groom. I looked at her, bucking and kicking her way across the paddock, and then smiled. She was so beautiful, so free and confident. Completely unlike myself. So I picked up a simple leather halter and started to approach the paddock, where a groom was already attempting to catch her. I watched in fascination as she gathered her hind legs underneath her body and sprang over the fence. I stood there patiently as she trotted her way over to me, seeming as if she didn't see me. Suddenly she stopped, snorting in surprise at the sight of me, and I quickly slipped the halter over her head. And here she was. I took a close look at her. A chestnut, and a shiny one at that. She looked young, about 4 or 5, and she was high-spirited, that was for sure. She pranced at the end of the lead, neighing. I gave a tug on the lead. And she stood there, legs straight, looking at me. I became self conscious under her piercing gaze, and covered up my light hair with a scarf. Even the horses seemed to view as foreign, though I was born and raised here. My mother had come from America, and she told me wondrous stories about the horses there, how there were huge, muscular agile horses called quarter horses, and how people used horses for plowing and such. No one here would dream of using an Arab for plowing. I gathered the lead in my hand and started to walk, the horse following behind me.
